IN MEMORIAM: Velma B. Vibbard, 85;
Dairy Farmer, 4-H Leader For 60 Years
BURLINGTON – Calling hour are today for Velma B. Vibbard, 85, of Burlington, a retired dairy farmer and 4-H leader for six decades, who passed away Friday, Sept. 20, 2019, in Little Falls.
Visitation is noon-2 p.m. at the Delker & Terry Funeral Home, Edmeston, followed at 2 p.m. by a funeral service at the funeral home, with Pastor Barry Davis, Burlington Green Baptist Church, officiating. Interment will be in Burlington Green Cemetery.
Velma was born on June 13, 1934, in Cooperstown, the daughter of the late Emory and Wilma Curry Bloomer.
A lifetime resident of the area, Velma was raised in Hyde Park and graduated from Cooperstown Central School. She married Kenneth on June 21, 1953, and in 1956, they bought their dairy farm, which they operated until their retirement in 1996.
Velma was active in 4-H as a leader and the Burlington Green Baptist Church for more than 60 years. In her church, she taught Sunday School, sang in the choir and was the treasurer for more than 50 years.
She will be remembered as a loving wife, mother and grandmother whose grandchildren were her pride and joy.
She is survived by her husband of 66 years, Kenneth Vibbard Sr. of Burlington; sons Kevin (Kirstin) Vibbard of Sherburne, Kenneth Vibbard Jr. of Utica and Kyle (Kim) Vibbard of Sidney; daughters Deborah Vibbard of Cortland, and Kathy Bennett of Burlington Flats; grandchildren Kristi Vibbard, Austen Bennett, Briana (Scott) Brown, Kevin Vibbard Jr., Patrick (Kate Deshaw) Vibbard and Nathan Vibbard. Also surviving are siblings, Malcom (Brenda) Bloomer of Hartwick, Kenneth Bloomer of St. Louis, Genevra Placek of Connecticut; sister-in-law Lois Bloomer of Maine; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by siblings, Ernest Bloomer, John E. Bloomer, June Travis and Elaine More; and son-in-law, Wayne Bennett.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Burlington Green Baptist Church, 2225 County Highway 16, Burlington Flats, NY 13315, in loving memory of Velma.
