Returns To Chamber’s Helm

Matt Hazzard returned today as executive director of the Cooperstown Chamber of Commerce, after almost five months battling Hodgkin's lymphona.  He holds up a plaque naming him an honorary member of the "20 Under 40" Class of 2015, which was to be presented to him in February on the day he was diagnosed at Bassett and quickly transferred to Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester for specialized treatment.  A A new charity golf tournament “Friends Helping Friends” will tee off Aug. 22 with the proceeds going to help Matt Hazzard and his family.  Hazzard, the director of the Cooperstown Chamber of Commerce, a 2000 Cooperstown Central School graduate and an assistant coach on the CCS varsity baseball and girls basketball teams, was diagnosed with lymphoma in February.  “Because Matt is such a central figure in Cooperstown ... we wanted to make him and his family the first recipients,” said co-organizer Scott Whiteman.  A "Friends Helping Friends" golf tournament is planned to benefit the Hazzard family Aug. 22 at Colonial Ridge Golf Course, followed by a dinner at the Sportsmen's Club in Fly Creek.
