Bassett Chief Operating Officer
COOPERSTOWN – Andrew R. Manzer, a hospital president/CEO in Schuyler County, has been selected as executive vice president and chief operating officer (COO) of the Bassett Healthcare Network, effective March 1, Bassett President/CEO Vance Brown announced today.
As COO, Manzer will be responsible for the operating performance of Bassett Hospital and for leading operational efficiencies and performance across the Bassett Network, including Fox Hospital. He will also be tasked with helping to envision and create models of operational integration, structures and systems that will best position the network for success, Brown said.
He succeeds Bertine McKenna, who announced her plans to retire last April.
Manzer comes to Bassett from Schuyler Hospital in Montour Falls, where he has been president/CEO since 2011. He recently led Schuyler Hospital’s successful merger with Cayuga Health System in Ithaca, serving as System Vice President since 2014, in addition to retaining his role as CEO at Schuyler.
“Andrew has a wealth of leadership experience in this arena and brings a critical skill set to bear on the challenges in front of us,” said Dr. Brown. “We are extremely fortunate and pleased to have him join the leadership team.”
A national search for the COO began in June. The search committee reviewed a dozen candidates out of a pool of 30 applicants and narrowed the list to six semi-finalists and two finalists. Manzer was the top choice for the COO position.
Before joining Schuyler Hospital, Manzer was Vice President of Operations at Riverside Methodist Hospital in Columbus, Ohio (2007-11). He also previously served as Vice President of Support Services at Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana, Ill., (2004-07, and he was Administrative Director of Operations at Guthrie, (1997-2004).
Manzer obtained his master’s in Health Services Administration from George Washington University and his bachelor’s in Health Services Administration from Ithaca College. He is a member of the American College of Healthcare Executives. He currently lives in Montour Falls wife Michele, and their daughters Mia and Emily.
