IN MEMORIAM:  Helen M. Barlow, 73, Oneonta

ONEONTA – Helen M. Barlow, 73, of Oneonta, who leaves two children, 10 grandchildren and four great-grandchldren, passed away on Wednesday, Dec. 30, 2015, with her family at her side, Bassett Hospital.

Helen was born on Oct. 23, 1942, in Oneonta, a daughter of the late Howard L. and Grace (Burgher) Oliver.  She attended Oneonta schools, graduating from Oneonta High School.

She worked many different jobs around the Oneonta area, including the Salvation Army Thrift Store, M.A Groff’s, and most recently for the Oneonta School District.  In her spare time, Helen loved going to live country music shows and dancing.  She also enjoyed playing the lottery, especially scratch-off tickets.

Helen was a devoted mother, grandmother and great grandmother for whom her family always came first.  She loved and cherished each and every one, but her grand and great grandchildren held a very special place in her heart.

Helen is survived by her son, David E. (Ann) Barlow Jr., and her daughter, Darlene (Charles Wayman) Barlow; 10 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren.  She is also survived by her sister, Beverly Davenport; her brothers, Gordon (Shirley) Oliver, Robert Oliver, and Howard (Polly) Oliver, Jr.; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was predeceased by her sisters, Mary Ruling and Ruth Ann Allen.

A funeral service will be held at Noon on Tuesday, Jan. 5, at the Bookhout Funeral Home, Oneonta.  Friends and family are invited to visit from 11am – Noon prior to the service.  Following the service, interment will be in the Oneonta Plains Cemetery, Oneonta.
