The House on Sugar Hill

Ella Swift, Honorable Mention, Glimmerglass Festival Youth Writing Competition
Grade 7, Home Study

Sugar Hill is where all the girls gather to play,
And where all their worries go away.
The spot where everything is sweet,
And where it all feels complete.
Where all the girls twist and twirl,
To find the rainbow swirls.

The big sweet gum tree,
Finally, lets the candy free.
Here and there the sweets lay,
Right where the children like to play.
Shortly thereafter, the tree is lush with jelly beans,
My favorite ones are—GREEN!!!

We awaken to the birds as they sing,
Wondering what fun the day will bring.
The neighborhood dogs fetching in the afternoon heat,
To earn their favorite homemade treats.
At dusk, the mooing chocolate cows,
Chomping tootsie rolls off the boughs.
The owls are hooting mighty loud,
We respond like a roaring crowd.

O’ the excitement and thrill,
Of living in the House on Sugar Hill.
