Enthusiastic Crowd Welcomes

Renovated Coop Library Wing

While the crowd filling the Village Library of Cooperstown hallway at 3 this afternoon, village Library Board Chair Kim Jastremski thanks all the people who contributed to the renovation of the former children's room. She and Mayor Jeff Katz then cut the ribbon, and youngsters charged into the roomier space created by removal of a wall down the center of the room. The new space includes the Nancy Dunn Room, named after a former librarian (and wife of the late Frank Carpenter, a partner in The Freeman's Journal), and the Richard Carr Reading Area, named after the former owner of Augur Books. While a waiting crowd filled the hallway at 3 this afternoon, village Library Board Chair Kim Jastremski thanks all the people who contributed to the renovation of the former children’s room in the Village Library of Cooperstown at 22 Main. She and Mayor Jeff Katz then cut the ribbon, and youngsters charged into the roomier space created by removal of a center wall. The new space includes the Nancy Dunn Room, named after a former librarian (and daughter of the late Frank Carpenter, a partner in The Freeman’s Journal), and the Richard Carr Reading Area, named after the former owner of Augur Books.  The renovations were done at no cost to the public, with a state Library Construction Grant and the Friends of the Village Library picking up the 25 percent local match.  (Jim Kevlin/AllOTSEGO.com)
