COOPERSTOWN – CCS Junior Tyler Bertram broke his team’s  23-year-old career-scoring record during last night’s game against Frankfort-Schuyler.

Hawkeye Bertram topped Redskin Seth Schaeffer’s 1994 record of 1,714 points, reaching 1,728 in the game. “It’s a nice thing to get out of the way before sectionals,” said his father, Basketball Coach Dave Bertram.

And it wasn’t the only triumph of the night. The Cooperstown Hawkeyes took the League Championship title.

It’s been a record-breaking season for Bertram, who also beat the school’s career steals record of 116 against Dolgeville during last Friday’s game, with 171 career steals. In the same game, he broke his own season three-point record of 79, now with 86 three-point throws.

He has now set out to beat Cooperstown Central’s all-time scoring record of 1,777, set by Lady Hawkeye Liz Millea. “He’s got 45 points to go,” said Bertram. “It’s a lot of hard work starting to pay off, and the kids around him are helping him make it happen.”
