ONEONTA – Appalachian Regional Commission Federal Co-chair Earl Gohl will be on the Hartwick College campus at 3:45 p.m. tomorrow to announce a $123,525 grant for the college’s Center for Craft Food and Beverage, the college announced this afternoon.  The announcement will be made on the first floor of Bresee Hall.

The goal of the center is to lower costs, enabling local businesses to more effectively produce, promote, and distribute their goods, and will provide professional development opportunities to small businesses, all of which will ultimately support business growth and job creation.

In December 2013, Hartwick was approved for an incentive through Empire State Development Corp. for $60,000. In addition, Hartwick was one of the first three private colleges to receive designation as a START-UP New York site – 50,000 square feet of property on the Hartwick campus is available for lease and development and is exempt from all state taxes, including personal income tax, for 10 years.

Gohl will be accompanied by his chief-of-staff Guy Land, Hartwick College Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs Michael Tannenbaum, Professor of Economics Carli Ficano, Professor of Biology Stan Sessions, Professor of Biology Mary Allen, Assistant Professor of Chemistry Zsuzsanna Balogh-Brunstad, Associate Professor of Chemistry Andrew Piefer, Professor of Chemistry Susan Young, and Visiting Assistant Professor of Chemistry Sanjeewa Gamagedara.
