IN MEMORIAM: Kay Mabie, 82; Retired
To County After Police Career In Florida
COOPERSTOWN – Catherine (Kay) Mabie, who returned to Otsego County after a law-enforcement career in Florida, passed away on Friday, May 26, 2017, with family by her side at the Cooperstown home of her daughter, Judy Reynolds, where she had resided since October 2015.
She was born in Goshen, Orange County, on March 25, 1935, to Elsie and Forrest Rosencrans and attended school in Walden. While living in South Valley she worked as a secretary for SUNY Cobleskill and raised her family.
She then moved and resided for many years in Tavares, Fla., where she worked for the State of Florida Probation and Parole Office. In 1981, she joined the Lake County Sheriff’s Office Property Division. In 1984, she joined the Vice Unit as a secretary, after many years was promoted to supervisor of the sheriff’s Civil Department. In 1995, she finally retired, but not for long, as she then worked for The Haven, a Rape Crisis Unit.
In 2012, she returned to the Otsego County area, where she was finally able to enjoy retirement and be with her family. One of her favorite enjoyments was to sit out on the porch where she could see the beautiful mountains and watch the sunset.
Kay is survived by her daughters, Judy (Ed) Reynolds of Cooperstown, Gail Mabie of South Valley, Deborah (Dan) Kiesow of Roseboom; sons Mark (Suzanne) Mabie and Michael Mabie both of South Valley; grandchildren Michael (Marcie) Reynolds, Matthew Moore, Daniel Moore, Shane Mabie, Adrienne Mabie, Josh Mabie, Brittany Mabie and Bethany ( Rich) Muraski; great-grandchildren Adelaide, Reynolds and Douglas Moore, and Lilly and Landon Muraski; sister Barbara (Walter) Roosa of New Paltz and many nieces and nephews.
