Gerald C. Rogers

ONEONTA – World War II veteran Gerald C. Rogers, 92, former owner of Rogers’ Appliances, passed away peacefully at his home in Oneonta on Sept. 16, 2017, surrounded by his family.  He also had a home in Safety Harbor, Fla.

Gerry was born Sept. 2, 1925, to Arthur and Iva (Cronk) Rogers in Harpersfield. He grew up in Hobart and Davenport. He was predeceased by his wife of 65 years, Ruth Munson Rogers.

While operating Rogers’ Appliances, he taught air conditioning and refrigeration at SUNY Delhi.

He was a Paul Harris Fellow in Oneonta Rotary Club and he was on the Briar Creek Board of Directors and treasurer of the Social Club. He was a member of Main Street Baptist Church where he served as treasurer and trustee.

He served in the Army in 1944-46 in the 43 Division 169 Infantry in New Guinea and during the Liberation of the Philippines. His unit was also one of the first to occupy Japan at the end of the war.

Gerry is survived by daughters Sherry (Thomas) Miller of Oneonta, Kathy (Thomas) Monahan of Maryland; and son Douglas (Martha) Rogers of Florida. He was the beloved grandfather of Karin Miller, Brett (Aimee) Miller, Jaclyn (Adam) Judge, Kristin Monahan, Ryan (Becky) Monahan, Gregory Monahan, Erin Rogers and Julie Rogers; and great- grandfather of Aiden Miller and Gabriel Judge. His brother, Donald Rogers of Florida also survives.

A calling hour will be 11 a.m.-noon Saturday, Sept. 30, at Main Street Baptist Church, Oneonta. A memorial service will follow at noon officiated by Rev. Gary Bonebrake.
