IN MEMORIAM: Rosemary B. Moore, 80;
With Husband, Retired To Otsego County
COOPERSTOWN – Rosemary Bernadette Moore (nee Costigan), 80, lost her battle to cancer Sunday, Oct. 22, while in hospice at Bassett Hospital.
Her family takes great comfort in knowing that she is reunited with her beloved husband of 59 years, Tom, who preceded her in death this past March. Their love and friendship for one another was so strong and true.
She was born on July 27, 1937, in Richmond Hill, Queens, to Helen and George Costigan. She was one of six siblings and the last of the Costigan children to pass.
Rosemary was a basketball player at Dominican Commercial High School, an all-girls school in Jamaica where she acquired her professional skills. Upon graduation, sge became an executive secretary in the insurance industry in New York City.
She married Tom Moore in April 1958, and they moved to Merrick, Long Island, with her mother and dearest friend, Helen, who lived with Rosemary and Tom until her passing in 1994.
Upon Tom’s retirement in the ’90s, they permanently moved to the Cooperstown area where they had earlier purchased property and had spent vacations since the 1960s.
Rosemary was a talented seamstress, quilter, and gardener. Like Tom, she was a great lover of all animals and a rescuer of many cats and dogs. She loved her friends and neighbors, and was active in the senior exercise program in Springfield with her husband, as well as arranging outings for her friends.
Rosemary was a cherished aunt to her many nieces and nephews, as well as their children, many of whom were weekend visitors to their home.
Rosemary is survived by her devoted daughters, Kathleen Moore Hennessy (James) of East Stroudsburg, Pa., and Jeanne Moore of Schenectady, as well as her beloved grandchildren – Max Kent, Aileen and Ellie Donovan, and Meghan, Conor, Liam, and Kyle Hennessy.
A mass in celebration of Rosemary’s life will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 28, at St. Thomas the Apostle Roman Catholic Church in Cherry Valley, followed by internment at Springfield Cemetery.
Funeral arrangements provided by Ottman Funeral Home, Cherry Valley. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Rosemary’s memory to the Susquehanna Animal Shelter or the Louis Busch Hager Cancer Center Fund at Bassett Medical Center.
