VILLAGE DECLARES EMERGENCY

As Storm Looms,

Schools To Close

With heavy snows expected to begin at 11 p.m. in Otsego County, Oneonta, Cooperstown and other area schools are already announcing they will be closed Friday.

Also, Cooperstown Public Works Superintendent Mitch Hotaling declared a state of emergency between 11 this evening and 10 a.m. Saturday, meaning on-street parking is prohibited.

The National Weather Service is predicting snow accumulations from 10 to 18 inches, with localized amounts up to 24 inches at the highest elevations.   Snows are expected to continue into Friday evening.

“Plan on difficult if not impossible travel conditions, including during the morning commute,” the Weather Service predicted.  Winds are expected to gust up to 50 mph Friday evening.
