IN MEMORIAM: Charles Briscoll, 87;
Air Force Vet, Oneonta Businessman
ONEONTA – Charles “Chuck” Briscoll, Air Force veteran and partner in the former S+S Liquors in Southside Mall, passed away Tuesday, Aug. 14, 2018, following a lengthy illness.
He was born on Aug. 25, 1934, in Oneonta, the son of George and Bertha (Mereness) Briscoll.
Upon his return from the Air Force, he worked as a salesman for Rudolph’s Jewelry Store. He later worked at Galinn’s Jewelers for several years. Before his retirement, Charles, together with his wife and daughter, Sharon, opened S+S Liquor Store in the Southside Mall.
In 1960, he married Sandra Keable at St. Mary’s Church in Oneonta, where they renewed their marriage vows on their 40th anniversary.
Charles was a member of the Oneonta American Legion, Post 259 and the Oneonta Elks Lodge. He enjoyed playing cards at both clubs with his friends. He was an avid harness race fan and he and his family spent many weekends at Vernon Downs over the years.
Charles loved spending time with his family and friends. He especially enjoyed Christmas, holiday dinners and birthday celebrations.
He is survived by his loving wife, Sandra of Oneonta; his daughter, Sharon Wilsey O’Donnell and son-in-law, Billy O’Donnell of East Meredith; his granddaughter, Elissa Wilsey of Chicago, Illinois; his son, David Briscoll; twin grandsons, Alexander and Nicholas Briscoll of Orlando, Florida; and his sister, Ruth Martin of Milford.
He will sadly be missed by all. “We will hold you in our hearts until we meet again.”
Friends are invited to greet the family from 4 to 6 p.m., Sunday, Aug. 19, at the Lester R. Grummons Funeral Home, 14 Grand St., Oneonta. A funeral mass will take place at 11 a.m., Monday, Aug. 20, at St. Mary’s Church, 38 Walnut St., Oneonta. Interment will follow in Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Emmons.
