‘Smacked,’ Local Documentary

On Heroin, Screened At FoxCare

ONEONTA – “Smacked! Heroin Addiction & Recovery in Rural America,” a locally produced documentary, will be screened at 5 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 6, in Classroom One at the FoxCare Center.

“Smacked!” has been nominated for Best Picture, Best Director, and The Hope Award at the New Jersey ESH Recovery Film Festival.

The film will be followed by a panel discussion with director Jessica Vecchione and members of Otsego County’s addiction treatment community. Public welcome.

The hour-long film, an intimate examination of the addiction crisis in Central New York and beyond, is broken into three parts: testimonials from those who suffer from addiction, with survivor stories; insight from law enforcement regarding their struggle to manage illicit drugs in local towns; and reflections from health care providers on how medicine has both contributed to the issue and is working to help afflicted individuals. Viewer discretion is advised. Strong language and graphic images.

Light refreshments will be served. Tell your loved ones, neighbors, and colleagues – this event will be a safe place to learn and find support. Find out more by contacting Deborah Roberts at 607-431-5692 or deborah.roberts@aofmh.org.
