With Certificate Of State Accreditation

ONEONTA – The Oneonta Police Department today was awarded the status of “fully accreditated policy agency” by the state Division of Criminal Justice Services.

It was the culmination of a 2 1/2-year process to ensure compliance with 133 specific guidelines in hiring, discipline, promotions, vehicle operations and other areas.

Only 30 percent of police departments in the state are fully accredited, and only 8 percent of those of Oneonta’s size.

Despite today’s announcement, “we will still continue to evolve and progress as an agency,” said Police Chief Dennis Nayor in a press release. “This includes staying current with emerging trends, using best practices, exploring new technologies to enhance our capabilities, and further developig all members through continual in-service training.”

Arrest Made In NBT Bank Robbery

Arrest Made In NBT Bank Robbery The City of Oneonta Police Department announced this afternoon they had made an arrest in connection to the December 29th, 2021, robbery of the NBT bank on Wall Street. Elijah Vergari, 29, of Oneonta was arraigned in Otsego County Court on Monday February 14th, for third degree robbery. Bail was set at $10,000 due to an existing pending felony charge in Delaware County. Vergari was remanded to the custody of the Otsego County Sheriff.…
