IN MEMORIAM: Alfred J. Miller Sr., 88;
Veteran Worked For Remington, Bruce Hall
RICHFIELD SPRINGS – Alfred J. Miller, Sr., 88, passed away on Tuesday morning Jan. 29, 2019, in Alpine Nursing & Rehabilitation Center, Little Falls.
Alfred was born on Sept. 17, 1930, in East Rutherford, N.J., a son to the late Jacob and Margaret Vander Ploeg Miller. He was raised and educated in Haledon, N.J., graduating from Eastern Christian High School.
In 1951 he joined the Army, serving in Germany until 1953. On April 15, 1952, he married the former Joye Pontier in Clifton, N.J., a blessed union 61 years
until her passing in 2013.
In 1969 he and Joye moved from Haledon, N.J., to Richfield Springs
From 1969 until 1986, Al worked for Remington Arms in Ilion. Later in 1986 he became a sales representative for the Bruce Hall Corp. in Cooperstown, retiring in 2012.
He was a fan of baseball especially his beloved New York Mets.
Having a strong belief in God, he was one of the Founding Fathers of the Richfield Springs Bible Church.
Surviving him are three sons; Alfred J. Miller, Jr. and his wife Marianne of Jordanville, Paul R. Miller and his wife Betty Lou of Jacksonville, Fla., James S. Miller of Richfield Springs, two daughters, Karen R. Watson and her husband Bruce of Richfield Springs and Lois Miller of Mohawk; six grandchildren, Brian Watson, Mark Watson, Michael Miller, Stephen Miller, Neil Miller, and Richard Miller, six great-grandchildren and niece Nancy Greco.
Beside his parents and beloved wife he was preceded in death by a
sister Evelyn Jonker.
Funeral services will be at 4 p.m. Saturday n the Richfield Springs Bible Church, Church Street, Richfield Springs, with the Pastor David Tosi to officiate. The family will be present 2-4 p.m. in the church to receive relatives and friends.
Expressions of sympathy may be made in his memory with donations to the Richfield Springs Bible Church. Envelopes will be available at the church.
