ONEONTA – Artist Janet Wentworth wants to make sure Oneonta’s notables get the recognition they deserve.  “I want to paint the unsung heroes, the under-represented, the never-represented,” she told Common Council earlier this evening.

Wentworth, an artist and adjunct art professor at SUNY Oneonta, has received a grant to paint 10 oil portraits of Oneonta community members in the “classical style” to be displayed at The Fenimore Art Museum’s community gallery.

Though she has received a grant from SUNY, she is seeking community input to complete the series.  “I want to know what are the characteristics of a hero,” she said.  “And I’m looking for nominations.”

To nominate, send Wentworth an email here.
