ONEONTA – The Oneonta Rotary Club has awarded the prestigious Rotary Youth Exchange Scholarship to Caroline Carter from Oneonta High School.  She will be leaving in August for Toulon, France, on the Cote d’Azure.

Caroline’s host family has a son who also received a Rotary Youth Exchange Scholarship and is going to Japan.

Since she was first selected, Caroline has had several interviews and extensive orientations in preparation for immersion into her new culture. Annually, about 1800 US students between the ages of 15 and 17.5 participate in this program.

“I hope to gain a greater world knowledge and broaden my world view,” said Caroline.  “I would like to be fluent in a language other than English.  I am passionate about seeing new places, meeting new people, and experiencing the world outside the United States.”

The scholarship covers room, board, tuition and a monthly stipend for one academic year of overseas high school studies.
