In the foreground are the honoree tables, with Pathfinder President Paul Landers’ on the right, and Oneonta funeral director Les Grummons on the left. Chamber volunteers Lynn Kent, left, Sarah Waid, center, and Lynne Sessions greet attendees at the chamber gala. Chamber board member Gary Laing, center, greets one of the “it” couples in attendance, Erna Morgan McReynolds and husband Tom Morgan. Kathy Broten of Hartwick, Townsend Catering’s head waitress, did double duty, carving prime rib for hungry celebrants. Barbara Ann Heegan sports a tiara; after all, the tiaras (and tophats), the gala’s theme this year, were her idea. Always a good sport, Medical Coaches’ Geoff Smith, Oneonta, gives two thumbs up to the tophat idea. With him is wife Linda. Les Grummons’ son Mike horses around when the tophats and tiaras were donned. While a golf newbie, Les Grummons recalls hitting a hole in one at the Oneonta Country Club, to his great surprise. A reporter called and asked, what’s your next golfing goal. Les replied, “To break 100!” Handing honoree Les Grummons his Eugene A. Bettiol Jr. Distinguished Citizen Award, Dan Ayres, Catskill Hospice CEO/president, praises Grummons, his former board chair during his first two years managing the local institution. To a standing ovation, Paul Landers approaches the podium to receive Pathfinder’s Distinguished Business Award. To his left is NYCM First Senior Vice President Mike Perrino of Cooperstown. To his right, Darryl Forsythe, Norwich, NBT’s retired president and board chairman. Pathfinder’s Paul Landers, Cooperstown, receives NBT’s Distinguished Business of the Year award from Jamie Reynolds, Oneonta, the bank’s regional executive. Oneonta Mayor Gary Herzig praises the evening’s honorees.
