ONEONTA – Earl Gohl, federal co-chair of the Appalachian Regional Commission, delivered the $123,525 check this afternoon to help launch Hartwick College’s new Center for Craft and Food Beverage, aim to assist the revival of hops growing, brewing and natural foods production in Otsego County.

The money “will enable local businesses to more effectively produce, promote and distribute their goods,” Hartwick Provost and Vice President Mike Tannenbaum told the gathering.  It “will provide professional development opportunities to small businesses, all of which will ultimately support business growth and job creation.”

The project also received a state economic development grant in the last round of CFA funding.

Friday, the itinerary is for Gohl to visit The Farmers’ Museum in Cooperstown at 10:30, lunch at Origins Cafe, then tour Brewery Ommegang.

In Memoriam: Susanne P. Swihura-Adsit

COOPERSTOWN—Susanne Swihura-Adsit passed away at home, surrounded by family, on September 18, 2023.
Born in 1962 in Montclair, New Jersey, Susanne Swihura moved to Christian Hill when she was a child, after her father purchased a farm. When her father then returned to work as a pharmacist, the family moved into the Village of Cooperstown. 
Susanne graduated from Hartwick College with a business degree and was employed at the Baseball Hall of Fame.  She married David Adsit after graduation and had four boys, all of whom they raised in Cooperstown.…
