COOPERSTOWN – A graveside service is planned locally for Cooperstown native Dawn Griffiths Patterson, of Woodstock, Ga., who passed away on March 14, 2016, after a courageous three-year battle with brain cancer.

A graveside service is planned at 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 17, when Dawn will be laid to rest next to her parents in the Middlefield Cemetery. A lunch will follow at the Origins Café, 558 Beaver Meadows Road, Cooperstown.

Dawn was born on April 11, 1957, in Cooperstown, to the late Herbert and Dorothy Bowne Griffiths. In 1968, her family moved from the farm to Gainesville, Fla., and she graduated from Gainesville High School in 1975.

While working at Publix in New Smyrna Beach in 1980, she met the love of her life, David, and they married in 1982.  David continued to work for Publix until his recent retirement after 40 years.

When they started their family, Dawn devoted herself to her husband and sons. She was a Cub Scout leader and team mom for all their activities. Dawn was very active in her church, always serving others. She loved baking, gardening, crafting, sewing and crocheting.

During her battle with cancer, Dawn continued to crochet baby blankets. On treatment days, Dawn would deliver these special blankets to the nursery at Kennestone Hospital.  Her strength and faith in God was an inspiration to all who met her.
