Democrats Passing

Fernandez Petitions

For County Sheriff

Bob Fernandez

Democrats are passing petitions to put retired state trooper Bob Fernandez, spouse of former county Board Chair Kathy Clark, R-Otego, on the ballot this November against county Sheriff Richard J. Devlin, Jr.

Richard Sternberg, the Cooperstown Democrat, confirmed today that the Democratic County Committee decided in executive session on May 31 to collect signatures on Fernandez’ behalf.

Sternberg said he isn’t sure if that added up to an endorsement, but that, once sufficient signatures are collected, the Democratic committee will likely then endorse the Otego man as its candidate.

County Chairman Kim Muller, a friend of Fernandez’ wife from their days together as SUNY Oneonta administrators, did not immediately return a call, nor did the candidate.

Fernandez had been seeking the Republican nomination, but the GOP county committee opted for Devlin in March.
