ONEONTA – Frederick J. Sousa, Jr., 64, a self-employed auto mechanic in Oneonta for many years, passed away Friday, Jan. 8, 2016 at Fox Hospital. 

He was born on Dec. 15, 1951, the son of Frederick J. Sr. and Geraldine (Eckler) Sousa, who survive him.

A life-long Oneonta resident, Fred was a 1969 graduate of Oneonta High School.  He attended and graduated from Delhi Ag & Tech College with a degree in automotive Mechanics.

He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Oneonta.

Fred is survived by his parents, Frederick J. Sr. and Geraldine Sousa; his children, daughter Laura and husband Matthew Wahlberg and their children, Rachel, Cadence and Megan; son Frederick III and his wife Colleen Sousa and their children, Evan and Corrine; son Kevin and his wife Tammy Sousa and their son Zackary; and son Brian and his wife Kristen Sousa and their children, Nicholas and Alexes; sisters and brothers in law, Pamela Rifanburg; Debra and Tom Elwood; and Michael and Mary Sousa; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Friends may call 5-8 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 12, at the Lester R. Grummons Funeral Home. A prayer service will be held at 8 pm at the conclusion of calling hours.

Donations in Fred’s memory are asked to be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, Tribute Program, PO Box 1000 Dept 142, Memphis, TN 38101-9908.  Envelopes will be available during calling hours.
