IN MEMORIAM;  Gordon A. Daley Sr., 91;

Served In Japan Occupation After WWII

ONEONTA – Gordon A. Daley, Sr., 91, an Amphenol retiree who served in the occupation of Japan after World War II, passed away Nov. 26, 2016 at Chestnut Park Rehabilitation & Nursing Center after a lengthy illness.

Gordon was born Feb. 7, 1925 in Oxford, the son of Leo and Edna (McMullen) Daley.  He married Beverly Baker on Aug. 16, 1946 at Elm Park United Methodist Church in Oneonta.

A veteran of the Army, Gordon saw action in the Pacific Theater during World War II.  As a member of the 81st Infantry Wildcat Division, he was with the early forces occupying Japan in the fall of 1945.  He was honorably discharged in February 1946 as staff sergeant.

Gordon was employed at Bendix/Amphenol as a machinist for 36 years.

He was an active member of the Elm Park United Methodist Church for many years.

Gordon is survived by his wife, Beverly; his children, Gordon Daley Jr. (Wendy) of Poland, N.Y., Susan Turner (Richard) of Walton, and Nan Scanlon (Don) of Oneonta; grandchildren, Christopher Daley (Kamree) of Victor, Kathy Rachon (Tim) of Poland, and Alicia, Emily and Erin Scanlon of Oneonta; great-grandchildren, Shane and Kennedy Daley of Victor; sister-in-law, Bernice Daley of Wells Bridge; brother-in-law, Don Baker of Carlisle, Pa.. and several nieces and nephews.

There will be no calling hours.

A memorial service will be 1:30 p.m., Wednesday, Nov. 30, at the Elm Park United Methodist Church, 401 Chestnut St., Oneonta, with the Pastor Donna Martin, officiating.

Interment with military honors will take place at a later date at the Oneonta Plains Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Elm Park United Methodist Church, 401 Chestnut St., Oneonta, NY 13820 or the Otsego County Alzheimer’s Association, 140 County Highway 33W, Cooperstown, NY 13326.
