IN MEMORIAM: Harriette Weeks, 80;

Nurse At Bassett, ODY Central School

SPRINGFIELD – Harriette D. Weeks, 80, surgical nurse at Bassett Hospital who then spent 23 years at school nurse at Owen D. Young Central School in Van Hornesville, died Wednesday, Jan. 13, 12015.

She was born on May 16, 1935, the daughter of Edna and Kenneth Dunckel.  She was one of three children.  Survivors include her sister Audrey Nasby, sister in law Madeline Dunckel and family, several nieces and nephews, and her husband James Weeks. She was predeceased by her brother  Harland Dunckel and her parents.

She married James Weeks on Oct. 9, 1961.  A graduate of Springfield Central School she continued her education at Syracuse University receiving her master’s of nursing.

She worked at St. Petersburg hospital, as a surgical nurse at Bassett Hospital, as a home health nurse in Herkimer, and finally at ODY.

After retiring she worked part-time in the Mohawk Valley Nursing Home for several years. Her favorite pastime was spending time showing and riding Arabian horses. She received countless ribbons and awards for her accomplishments with her beloved horses.  She was loved and will be missed by many.

Calling hours will be noon-2 p.m. Monday, Jan. 18, 2016 at the Ottman Funeral Home , Cherry Valley.  Funeral services will follow at 2 p.m.

Refreshments will be served at the First Baptist of Springfield Center following the service.  In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the First Baptist Church of Springfield Center, PO Box 34, Springfield Center, NY 13468.
