Matthew W. Shaw
1968-2026

COOPERSTOWN—Matthew Shaw, beloved husband, friend, father and accomplished executive, passed away on August 13, 2026 after a courageous battle with cancer.

Matthew grew up in upstate New York before moving with his family to Florida in middle school. He attended the University of Miami, where he met his future wife, Lisa Shaw. After starting his career at Deloitte, Matthew and Lisa headed to Harvard Business School, arriving on campus with their first child, Sawyer, who was still a baby.

Matthew built a successful career growing private-equity-backed companies, most recently as chief financial officer at Polywood, where he served for almost a decade. At work he was known for his intelligence, sound judgment, determination and instinct for solving even the most difficult problems, all with a sense of humor.

His greatest pride, though, was his family. Matthew and Lisa raised five children, and he always made time to be an important part of their lives. He passed along his love of golf to them and took particular pride in supporting each of them in their individual interests, education, and ambitions, always encouraging them to be the best versions of themselves.

Whatever captured his interest, Matthew pursued with curiosity, discipline and determination. In recent years, he learned Italian, earned his pilot’s license and achieved Advanced Open Water Diver certification, in addition to picking up a racquet again.

Matthew is survived by his wife, Lisa Shaw; their children, Sawyer, Story, Scout, Senate, and Summit; his parents, Jane and George Shaw; his sister and brother-in-law, Shelley and David Boyce; and many beloved aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Those who knew Matthew will remember his big smile. It reflected the joy and energy he brought to his family and all who knew him.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, August 22 at Tillapaugh Funeral Home in Cooperstown, New York.
