Janet Munro Retrospective on View at Fenimore
COOPERSTOWN—“Janet Munro: A Life in Paint” is on view at Fenimore Art Museum through December 31. In this retrospective show, renowned local folk artist Janet Munro tells her life story through her paintings.
According to a press release, as a self-taught American artist Munro has spent more than 50 years painting the world around her, especially towns and farms, waterways, working communities, and scenes that reflect the region’s shared past. She is drawn to color, detail, and the small things that give a painting its personality and sense of place.
The community is invited to attend a free discussion with the artist on Saturday, October 17 from 2-3 p.m. A reception with light fare and an opportunity to view the special exhibition will follow the discussion. This event is included with museum admission, no preregistration required.
Fenimore Art Museum is open Tuesday through Sunday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. through the end of the year. Tickets are available at the door or online at fenimoreart.org. Current shows also include “The New American Masterworks Gallery,” “American Folk Art,” “Contemporary Women Artists,” “The Thaw Collection of American Indian Art,” “Tranquility and Turbulence: Reflections on the Land,” and the “10th Members’ Showcase.”
