IN MEMORIAM:  Joan F. Welch, 78, Cooperstown;

Stylist Served Thanksgiving Home, Woodside Hall

COOPERSTOWN  – Joan Welch, 78, who operated a hair salon in Cooperstown for decades, serving, in particular, residents of the Thanksgiving Home and Woodside Hall, passed away Thursday, Aug. 20.

Born in Syracuse on Oct. 22, 1936, the daughter of George and Mildred Foland, she lived most of her life in Cooperstown because of her love for family, her many friends and her enjoyment of Otsego Lake.

In her early years Joanie would take her children to her parents’ camp on the lake to spend joyful hours swimming, sailing, water skiing, fishing and creating wonderful memories. As time went by she and her late husband, Frank Welch, could be found enjoying and laughing with friends and family on their boat at the Lake Front Marina or at Sandy Beach.

Joanie loved all types of wildlife, from the geese that wandered freely on her lawn to the numerous birds flocking to her porch for a bite to eat. Joanie spent endless hours watching and caring about the animals that roamed her property.

She is survived by her three children: son Jeff Feik, and his wife Kim; daughter Kim Potts, and her husband, Jim; and son Brad Feik and his wife, Noel, all of Cooperstown.  Her grandchildren include Scotty and Sarah Feik of Cooperstown, Ali Potts from Williamsburg, Va., Jamie Feik of Richmond, Va., and Airman Tim Feik of Tyndale Air Force Base, Panama City, Fla.

A Celebration of Joan’s Life will be 3-6 p.m. with an in-home service beginning at 3:30 pm, on Saturday, Aug. 29.  Joanie’s home is located at 470 Greenough Road.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Joanie’s memory can be made to the “Catskill Area Hospice and Palliative Care, Inc.”, at 1 Birchwood Drive, Oneonta, NY 13820.

Arrangements are under the guidance of Tillapaugh Funeral Service.
