IN MEMORIAM: Joanne I. Puylara-Boyd;

Managed Father’s Galinn’s Jewelry Store

ONEONTA – Joanne I. Puylara-Boyd, 65, who was involved for years in managing her father’s Galinn’s Jewelry Store in downtown Oneonta, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, Oct. 12, 2016 at her home.

She was born May 22, 1951, the daughter of Carl Angelo Puylara Sr. and Sophia (Sobers) Puylara.   She was raised in Oneonta and graduated from OHS.

While still in high school, she began working parttime at Galinn’s, located where the Oneonta History Center is today.  Over the years, she became more involved full time in the daily operations until its closing in 1999.

She is survived by her loving and devoted husband, Lloyd Boyd Jr., whom she married on May 12, 1973; her loving four legged babies, Carluchie and Ting-Ting aka Itsie; two dear cousins, John and Kathy Sobers and Jimmy and Jeanette Puylara; and special friends, Laura and Marcia.

She was predeceased by her beloved parents.

A graveside service will be  at 10:30 am Monday, Oct. 17, at the Oneonta Plains Cemetery, with the Rev. Judith A. Thistle, officiating.

Donations may be made to Catskill Area Hospice, 1 Birchwood Dr., Oneonta, NY 13820

Arrangements are entrusted with Lewis, Hurley & Pietrobono Funeral Home, 51 Dietz St., Oneonta.

  1. Dear Lloyd, How sorry I am for your sadness. Joanne was lovely. I hope that after you have given yourself all the time you need to mourn that you will carry forward into life with the gift you have for enjoying time spent with friends.
