Getting Down And Dirty

At OWL’s Dig Dirt Day

SUNY Archaeology student Megan Shannon, left, digs with Juliana Militello, Worchester, Jackson Kirbey, Oneonta and his sister Ava at the Hartwick College Pine Lake excavation as pat of OWL’s Dig Dirt Day. The site is believed to be a Native American site and has yielded a high density of fire pits and camping sites and even some arrow points, pottery shards and other artifacts. Visitors got to tour the live excavation site and ask questions of the students, and they try their hands at digging themselves. They also learned how to shift soil for artifacts, worked on crafts and even hone their skills at throwing an Atlatl. (Ian Austin/AllOTSEGO.com)
