ONEONTA – Laura Dohner announced today that she is running for Common Council for the Fourth Ward in Oneonta.  The position is now held by Mike Lynch, who has announced he’s not running again.

“I find it very satisfying to be involved in making policy decisions which improve a community,” the candidate said.  “My background as president of two major Graduate Student Organizations and serving on several community boards has taught me well,” she says.

She intends to continue holding Fourth Ward meeting begun by Lynch.  She also wants to help strengthen “Town and Gown” relationships in Oneonta.

Dohner serves on the boards of Foothills Performing Arts Center and the Catskill Symphony Orchestra. She is currently finishing her Ph.D. in translation at Binghamton University and is an adjunct professor in the Writing Initiative Department at BU. She holds a masters in translation from Kent State University and received her bachelor’s degree from the Honors College at the University of Akron.

Her background in service also includes numerous mission trips to Latin America and volunteer work for “Proyecto Raices,” which promotes children’s literacy. She also served as treasurer and board member of the Art Mission Theater in Binghamton.

Dohner is a resident of the Fourth Ward where she and her husband own a home on Spruce Street. She moved to Oneonta to marry her husband Eric and fell in love with the quality of life in the City of Oneonta. She is the mother of six children, who range in age from 32 to 26. She has one grandchild and loves yoga, music and birding. For further information about the candidate call her at 607/222-3657 or email her at elect.laura.dohner@gmail.com.
