ONEONTA – A former Oneonta resident was charged with breaking into a Market Street apartment and attempting to sexually assault the two women living there.

Ryan R. Leonard, 32, now a resident of Fort Lauderdale, Fla., allegedly broke into the apartment at 10 Market St. while intoxicated and attempted to rape the two residents while they slept.

One resident was able to remove Leonard from her room and close the door, police said; the other resident was able to get away from Leonard and call a friend who in turn called the police.

Upon arrival, Oneonta Police found Leonard naked inside the apartment.  He was unknown to both residents.

He was charged with the class C felonies of burglary in the second degree and attempted rape in the first degree.  If convicted of all charges, he faces up to 30 years incarceration.
