IN MEMORIAM: Michael J. Cairo, 58, Musician

Michael J. Cairo

OTEGO – Michael J. Cairo, 58, a local musician, passed away unexpectedly at home on Aug. 5, 2018.

Michael was born Aug. 13, 1959, in Glens Falls, the son of Robert and Gwendolyn (Haines) Wood.

Michael was a graduate of Oneonta High School.  He was a known area musician, playing with several area bands.  He loved playing the drums and the harmonica.  He also enjoyed fishing and watching the Yankees and Jets.

Michael is survived by his daughters, Lindsey and Karly Cairo; his father, Robert Wood; his siblings, Cheryl and Dan Gorsch, Ron and Cindy Wood, and Andrea Hitchcock; the love of his life, Katrina Diamond; his special buddy, Roscoe; several nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and special cousins.

He was predeceased by his mother, Gwen Wood; his brother, Mark Cairo and his Gramp’s Sanford Haines.

The family will be in attendance starting at 1 p.m. Saturday, August 11th at the 6th Ward Athletic Club, 22 West Broadway, Oneonta.  A brief service will begin at 1:30 p.m. follow by a celebration of Michael’s life.

Arrangements are with the Lewis, Hurley & Pietrobono Funeral Home, 51 Dietz St., Oneonta.
