Conference Goal Is To Celebrate, Educate Student-Athletes

COOPERSTOWN
The 11th Annual Athletic Leadership Conference was held at the Clark Sports Center in Cooperstown on March 5. The theme of the 2026 conference was “Motivate from Within: Sportsmanship, Determination, Initiative.” Sixty-four school districts were represented from three out of 11 sections in New York State.
This conference was an opportunity given to four special student-athlete leaders per school and showcased powerful presentations throughout the day on topics including leadership, nutrition, officials, and ways to achieve your dreams and goals as a student-athlete. I was given the incredible opportunity to be the assistant conference manager for the Leadership Training for Athletes program at Cooperstown High School, alongside the unbelievable Monica Wolfe.
Once a week, every single week leading up to the conference, Mrs. Wolfe and I met to work on conference preparations. We started by opening the sign-ups to schools who have attended previously, and some new schools who have not attended before. We then had to line up who was going to be speaking at the conference, or running the event activities. Then we organized the sponsorships, food, and deliveries upon deliveries of shirts and various items, as well as gifts for the speakers.
Planning this conference was a lot of work. Fortunately, it was a well-oiled machine, all because of Mrs. Wolfe. She is the brains behind the operation. Watching her single-handedly plan this incredible conference for leaders across New York State is so inspiring. She puts her heart and soul into this conference in hopes that it will make a positive impact on high-school athletics. And it certainly does.
This day for student-athletes not only recognizes and celebrates their current leadership qualities but also gives them even more tools to take back to their schools. Hopefully, the experience creates a ripple effect throughout their schools’ athletics as well.
Helping plan this leadership conference and working to run the event made me realize the importance of hard work. I gained a deep appreciation for the people in this world who selflessly invest their time in helping others and the community around them. I am lucky enough to have experienced the impact of this conference on student-athletes at Cooperstown, as well as every other school district that is represented at the event. This conference shapes the way high-school athletics are played for years to come, and it all starts with the students who participate in athletics. Being able to invest the time and hard work into something worthwhile is powerful.
Overall, planning and getting to experience the annual student athlete leadership conference in Cooperstown is something that I will never forget. The memories I created and the lessons learned through this experience speak volumes to how impactful it truly is. Thank you again, Mrs. Wolfe, for this opportunity, and thank you for giving your entire heart to an amazing cause. You are helping to create the future leaders of high-school athletics.
