HARTWICK – Orrin D. Higgins, 76, former state trooper, longtime Hartwick town justice and civic leader, passed away this afternoon – Wednesday, Sept. 21, 2016 – at his home in Hartwick with his family by his side.

A full obituary will be forthcoming.

The CGP’s oral history program encapsulated his life this way: “Throughout his tenure as a policeman, and later a judge, Mr. Higgins has been an active member of the Hartwick community.

“He has served on town boards, organized community events, been on the board of the Hartwick Insurance Co., and lobbied to keep Hartwick’s schools active.”

Born in Hunter in 1940, he was a SUNY Oneonta graduate.

His wife, Mary E. Higgins, passed away last December at age 61.

Arrangements are pending under the care and guidance of the Connell, Dow & Deysenroth Funeral Home in Cooperstown.
