With her is Hall President Jeff Idelson. The crowd clamors for Hall of Famer Juan Marichal, as he exits Fowler Way (named after Bud Fowler, the first black to play on an integrated team in the 19th century), as the Parade of Legends begins. Vin Mavaro, the FDNY battalion captain during the 9/11 cleanup who spoke at the Frick and Spink awards ceremony at Doubleday Field this afternoon, rides in a float with prize winning Boston Globe columnist Dan Shaughnessy. Johnny Bench is always a crowd pleaser. Gaylord Perry’s float takes the turn at Chestnut and Main, showing the six-deep crowd on the far side. Fans and patrons of Mel’s 22 packed the Chestnut Street hot spot to catch the snow. Hall of Fame Reggie “Mr. October” Jackson, the famed Yankee slugger, enjoys back-and-forth with the parade crowd. Donovan Ross, 4 1/2, of Grafton, Mass., is hoisted by Tom Maculiffe of Winston-Salem, N.C., to get a better view. In the background are Donovan’s dad, Scott, and twin sister Giovanna. Phil Niekro and wife Nancy, mainstays at Induction Weekends for decades, take in the atmosphere. If you look closely, you can see Goose Gossage disembarking the preparing to enter the Hall of Fame at 25 Main St., the most packed section of the parade route.
