Razed Home One Of Only 3

From Middlefield In Hurd’s

House Probably Built By Last-Maker’s Father
Dorothy Newsom's home in Middlefield Center that burned Tuesday is one of only three pictured in Hurd's 1878 "History of Otsego County." According to local historian David Petri, it was probably built by the Samuel Huntington, father of Samuel Gates Huntington, who founded the shoe-last factory across the street from the Newsom home and down Springfield Hill Road. The other two homes in the history are Henry S.F. Cooper Jr.'s (the Horace Pierce home) at Red Creek Farm, and the home of William H. Lynes, which was demolished to make way for Ommegang Brewery.
