State Assemblyman Steve Hawley, who represents an area between Rochester and Buffalo, is sponsoring a bill that would put a referendum on the November ballot, Fox News is reporting today.
It would ask all New Yorkers if they would support dividing New York into two separate states – with Upstate and western New York being one state and downstate being another.
