IN MEMORIAM: Thomas Moore, 83;
Retired From NY Tel To Cooperstown
COOPERSTOWN – Thomas Joseph Moore, 82, a New York Telephone employee who retired to Cooperstown, died Thursday, March 2, 2017.
He was born to Brigid and Edward Moore on Nov. 24, 1934 and raised in Richmond Hill. Tom was a veteran of the Korean War and an employee of New York Telephone.
A former resident of Merrick, on Long Island, he retired to Cooperstown.
A kinder gentler man never lived. An Irish tenor who would break your heart singing “Danny Boy.” A lover of animals. He would stop on the road to rescue a baby bird or large shelled turtle. A neighbor once said, “I wouldn’t be surprised if an elephant showed up on his front lawn because he knew Tommy Moore was there and would help him.”
He leaves behind his beloved wife of 59 years, Rosemary (Costigan) Moore, his daughters Jeanne Moore and Kathleen Moore Hennessy (James Hennessy), and grandchildren Max Kent, Aileen Donovan, Ellie Donovan, Meghan Hennessy, Conor Hennessy, Liam Hennessy, and Kyle Hennessy.
He was beloved son-in-law of Helen Costigan, who lived in his home until her death. And did he ever make her laugh!
There are far too many nieces and nephews to mention who he loved as they loved him. Whether by blood, birth, or acquaintance, all were held dear and cherished. Survived by many close friends, as well as cousins in Newfoundland and Ireland.
Cremation will be private. Burial will be in the Spring. Arrangements are under the direction of the Ottman Funeral Home, Cherry Valley, NY.
In lieu of flowers, donations to the Susquehanna Animal Shelter or Catskill Area Hospice Care are greatly appreciated.
