Cooperstown Mayor Ellen Tillapaugh Kuch and husband Town Justice Gary Kuch pause for a moment of solemnity. At Vets’ Club Commander John Famulare stands vigil, Chaplain Dave Jackson sets alight worn out Stars & Stripes that are disposed of ceremoniously on Veterans Days. The doughboy statue at the bottom of Pine Boulevard commemorates the Great War that ended 100 years ago today. Leading Cooperstown Vets’ Club ceremonies this morning are, from left, Chaplain Dave Jackson, Commander John Famulare, and Auxiliary Commander Mary Balcolm. The ceremony took place on the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month, when the Armistice was signed ending World War I. Trumpeter Emily Pernat was in the front rank of the CCS Marching Band. The family of Gerald “Boo-Boo” Goodspeed again marched as one in today’s Veterans’ Day parade, as they have since the National Guard veteran’s passing in 2014 after a nine-year battle with cancer. Mike Gage drives Georgia Goodspeed and Breona Talbot, 4. Auxiliary member Patricia DeLorenzo was as well-prepared as well-prepared as any – and better than most – to march in today’s’ freezing weather. Because of the weather, and perhaps because of church services, few local spectators marked the Great War’s 100th annivesary.
