2 Bassett Boards Enter ’18

With New Chairs At Helm

Meyer At Network, Fulmer At Hospital,

Plus Franck, Hanft Gain Appointments

COOPERSTOWN – The Bassett Healthcare Network Board of Directors and the Bassett Hospital Board of Trustees will have new chairs Jan. 1, it was announced today.

• Ralph H. Meyer, past president & CEO of Guthrie Healthcare System in 1982-98, will chair the Healthcare Network board.
• Terry Fulmer, president of The John A. Hartford Foundation in New York City and previously vice chair of the hospital trustees, will now chair the hospital board.

Both succeed Timothy Pedley, who is stepping down Dec. 31 as chair of both boards.  Dr. Pedley has chaired the hospital board for two years and was vice chair for four years before that, serving on that board 10 years in all.  He oversaw the development of and led the Healthcare Network board since it was formally established in February.

Recently, refining the separate goals of the eight-county Healthcare Network and the flagship hospital at Cooperstown led to Dr. Vance Brown handing off his hospital responsibilities to Dr. William LeCates, who was named deputy hospital president while a nationwide search for the permanent hospital president, reporting to Brown, is conducted.  The other Bassett Hospitals – Cobleskill, O’Connor in Delhi, Tri-Town in Sidney and Little Falls already had their own presidents, reporting to Brown.

In addition to announcing the appointments of Fulmer and Meyer as board chairs, the Bassett boards also recently elected the following new members:

To the Healthcare Network board: Marion Terenzio, Ph.D., SUNY Cobleskill president; Robert Tamburrino, a private equity/hedge fund representative, and John Zogby, the national pollster and senior partner in John Zogby Strategies, joined the Healthcare Network Board.

Two local men will be among new members of the hospital board: Walter A. Franck, Cooperstown, the retired physician and local dean of the Columbia-Bassett Medical School; and Bob Hanft, Pierstown, former COO of JP Morgan’s Global Equity Group and former Hartwick College trustees’ chair, now a senior adviser with Strategic Financial Services in Utica.

Also new to the hospital board are Maureen Killackey, MD, New York Presbyterian/Herbert Irving Comprehensive Cancer Center clinical director; Jim Patrick, Envestnet Inc. executive vice president, and Donald R. Bordley, MD, professor and chair for education at Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester.

Drs. Franck and Killackey will be vice chairs of the hospital board.
