Trustees Add 5 Weeks

To Paid-Parking Season

On-Street Fees Extended To Columbus Day

Longtime paid-parking opponent Joan Clark, a Main Street property owner, said she asked others to join her at the Village Board meeting this evening: "They're comment was, 'Why bother?'" Mrs. Clark and, behind her, Cooperstown Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Matt Hazzard, were the only two people to speak in opposition to extending on-street paid parking from Labor Day to Columbus Day. Rich McCaffery spoke in favor of the idea. The trustees then voted unanimously in favor of the measure. In their individual comments, they said the opinion sample Hazzard had collected – about 60 of more than 300 members – was too small, and that the revenue paid parking has generated – $380,000 – has made the village more financially viable. 1. It’s very sad that the trustees, lead by Jeff Katz, don’t listen to the business community, that this most directly effects, and ignore them and vote it extend it. They treat the village like it’s their own to do what the heck they want to do. It’s really time for a change!!

  2. This article is missing some details that are only hinted at here.. Like why did everyone tell Joan Clark ‘Why Bother”? Is this commentary on the of the Board meetings themselves or did they not care about the extended paid parking? What whats Mrs Clark’s argument against the paid parking?

  3. Maybe they can pave some streets now! How embarrassing that our visitors must deal with our road conditions when staying in Cooperstown!
