At 2:40, Birds Stopped Singing

Excitement As Moon

Passes Over The Sun

There was much excitement in downtown Cooperstown and around Otsego County at 2:40 p.m., as the partial eclipse we’re seeing around here peaked. The birds had stopped singing about 20 minutes before, a sure signal something was awry. In front of Willis Monie Books, the  sisters Xantha, left, and Helena Soter try to share a pair of eclipse glasses to get a look at the historic happening, while mom Amelia and dad Peter (a Yankee fan) look on. The Soters are touring Central New York, from New Paltz to Syracuse, scouting campuses for Xantha, who will be a senior this year. (Jim Kevlin/AllOTSEGO.com)
