ONEONTA TRADITION CONTINUES

Community Christmas Dinner

Welcomes All To Feast Table

Cathy and Glenn Rappleyea, left, serve retiring Methodist District Superintendent Everett Bassett and his wife, Sharon, at the Community Christmas Dinner this afternoon at the First United Methodist Church in Oneonta. “For people like us, we were having a quiet Christmas day and our family wasn’t with us. This gave us a chance to come out and be with the community,” said Sharon.  The couple is retiring at year’s and and plan a getaway to Virginia Beach.  The annual event, which draws as many as 200 diners to eat a Christmas meal together, is put on annually by St. Mary’s Catholic Church and the First United Methodist Church.  The Rappleyeas have volunteered at the event for the last 10 years. “We’re here on earth to help others and that’s my calling,” said Cathy. “This dinner offers friendship and a sense of community and belonging.” (James Cummings/AllOTSEGO.com)
