86-Year-Old Motorcylist

Dies Near Schuyler Lake

SCHUYLER LAKE – State Police at Richfield Springs reported yesterday they are investigating a fatal motorcycle crash in the Town of Exeter at 4:30 p.m. Monday.

An investigation determined that Herbert L. Black, 86, of Remsen, was operating his 1998 Honda Valkyrie motorcycle northbound on Route 28 when he entered a curve in the roadway.

Black was unable to maintain his lane and struck a street sign on the east shoulder.  He was ejected and suffered serious injuries to his head, neck and chest.

Black was transported by Richfield Springs EMS to Bassett Hospital where he was pronounced deceased by Dr. Rebecca Barnes at 5:48p.m.  Otsego County Coroner James Dow advised no autopsy would be required.
