Oneida County Woman Arrested 

For Cocaine Possession at Bassett

COOPERSTOWN – An Oneida County woman was arrested after a “small quantity” of cocaine was found in her possession when she was admitted to Bassett Hospital.

Village police were contacted by Bassett after Debra Lee Burton, 54, was found to be in possession of approximately one gram of powdered cocaine when she was admitted on Jan. 31.   That afternoon, detectives obtained a warren of arrest for criminal possession of a controlled substance in the 7th degree, a class A misdemeanor, for Burton from Otsego Judge Gary M. Kuch.

Burton, who is currently homeless, was released from the hospital on Thursday, Feb. 11 and arrested by Cooperstown Police Officers James Kelman and PO Jessica Thornhill.  She was arraigned by Town of Otsego Judge Leslie B. Friedman and remanded to the Otsego County Correctional Facility on $1,000 bail returnable in the Town of Otsego Court on Feb. 17.

If convicted, she faces up to a year in the Otsego County Jail.
