Lecture On Eva Coo Due At 3 p.m.

Taylor Hollist, retired SUNY Oneonta math professor, at this hour is at 22 Main St., Cooperstown, setting up for a 3 p.m. lecture on "Eva Coo, Murderess," sponsored by the Friends of the Library, Hollist developed an interest in the Depression-era murder on Crumhorn Mountain after his retirement in 2003, (and also in M.C. Escher, the artist, the topic of a lecture later this spring at SUNY). The Coo was found guilty of murdering her handyman for an insurance payout, was the focus of a trial covered by the New York City tabloids in the Otsego County Courthouse, and was executed at Sing Sing in 1934. Hollist became interested in the Coo story while, a scoutmaster, he heard it related around campfires at the Henderson Boy Scout Camp on Crumhorn. (Jim Kevlin/AllOTSEGO.com)
