Interpretive Sign Unveiled

At Oldest Covered Bridge

Donna Freeland, left, president, New York State Covered Bridge Society, Ruth L. Pierpont, deputy state commissioner for Historic Preservation, and Rich Sheckells, Glimmerglass State Park manager, unveil a new interpretive sign this afternoon at the nation's oldest covered bridge in the Glimmerglass State Park on Otsego Lake. The bridge, originally part of the approach to the Hyde Hall mansion, was built in 1825. The National Historic Landmark's former historian, Douglas Kent, found receipts for material purchased for the bridge in the Hyde Hall papers at Cornell University.
