IN MEMORIAM: Marge Gregory, 82;

Leaves Survivors Throughout County

EDMESTON – Marjory Jean “Marge” Gregory, 82, who leaves survivors throughout Otsego County, passed away Aug. 8, 2016, in Cooperstown.

Marge was born Oct. 4, 1923, in Oneida, the daughter of the late Walter and Edith (Krebser) Haggerty.
She attended Clayville and Schuyler Lake schools through sixth grade, then moved to Wiley Town, where she attended a one-room schoolhouse (District 13) for two years. She graduated from Cooperstown Central School in 1942. On graduation, she worked in a branch of the Scintilla Magnets in Oneonta for two years.

In November 1944, Marge married John Gregory Jr. in Burlington Flats. Together, they farmed several years in West Exeter, before moving to East Street in Edmeston in 1949. In 1999, she moved to the West Hill Terrace Apartments there.

Marge worked as a lab technician for Kraft Foods from May 1951- April 1971, and later as a key punch and computer operator in 1972-1985 for Bassett Hospital.

She also worked at various steak houses, babysat, and taught at Wee Care Center for pre-kindergarten children. In addition, Margie performed certified home health care for many nice families for over 14 years. She enjoyed caring for the sick and elderly.

Marge loved gardening, flowers and birds. She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Burlington Flats, and the Burlington Flats United Methodist Women’s Club.

Marge was predeceased by her husband John in 1992, and two brothers, James and Leonard.
Survivors include her son Dale and his wife Kellee of Burlington Flats; two grandchildren, Jeremiah (JJ) and his wife Melissa of Mount Vision, and Erica Morat and her husband Steven of Chittenango; three great-grandchildren, Grant and Grace Gregory, and Emilee Morat; One brother, Kenneth and his wife Sandie of Cooperstown; five sisters, Dorothy Duncan of Richfield Springs, Flora Bennett of Norwich, Arline Oliver of Edmeston, Marion Royce and her husband Bill of Morris, and Irene Cook of Otego.
Also many nieces, nephews and cousins who kept in touch with her regularly. She had many close and loving friends. She always loved being near, and talking to people.

Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Friday, Aug. 12, at the Burlington Flats Baptist Church, with Pastor Jay Henderson officiating. Interment will follow in Burlington Flats Cemetery. Calling hours will be prior to services from 11 to 1 at the church.
