COOPERSTOWN – As, drivers on Route 28 between here and Fly Creek have noticed, the state Department of Transportation began work the day after Labor Day on a project that is clogging traffic both ways, particularly during rush hours.

The DOT is replacing two concrete box culverts, work that will continue until Dec. 1.

A temporary traffic signal is in place to control alternating 10-foot-wide single-lane traffic, with flagmen during working hours, which are from 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.  All work will be performed weather permitting.

The DOT is reminding drivers that fines are doubled for work zone infractions; two or more violations in a work zone can lead to a license suspension.

Keep up to date on the traffic by calling 511 or visiting www.511NY.org.
